'Third party and highly placed sources' have tipped bloggers off

Third party and some rather "highly placed" sources are said to have hinted that the PSP2 is really coming. Various bloggers posted rumors a month ago about a PSP2 being in the works over at Sony, but they were quickly reduced to silence. This time, things aren't much different, Sony is still quiet, yet third party sources have hinted that the second handheld from Sony is a certainty.

Let's analyze this information a bit, shall we? OK, first of all, if "third-party-something" found out that Sony is in the works for a PSP2, why don't they have a name or something? I got this information from an article today on Kotaku and the words "third party" and "highly placed sources" are mentioned, in regards to the PSP2 rumor, yet no names are given. It doesn't mean that it isn't true, I mean, whoever got access to this kind of information and tipped them off must be in a somewhat close relationship with Sony, so they don't want to ruin that.

Then again, why would Sony be making the PSP2? And if they were, why would they release it anytime soon when the PSP is still doing well and Japan is literally in love with it? They could be working on anything down there in their dark mysterious laboratories, but an improvement of the original PSP seems to be the most reasonable assumption. Anyway, they won't be releasing it any time this year if the PSP still sells and doesn't become obsolete. Of course they could, but why risk selling less PSP units? As soon as the PSP2 hits the market, PSP sales will drop immediately because nothing kills a portable system faster than a better portable system.

These are the presumable specs for the new and improved PSP, or PSP2: gorgeous screen, faster loads, improved buttons, 8GB internal flash, possible touch-screen, possible built-in camera and it still uses UMDs. I know what you're thinking: PSPi, right?
