Ready at Dawn, the developer behind blockbuster PlayStation Portable games like God of War: Chains of Olympus and the more recent Ghost of Sparta, has just started criticizing the Sony handheld platform.

According to its co-founder, Ree Weerasuriya, the PSP was a pretty decent platform, and it was able to offer amazing experiences, like his team did with the God of War games.

"It was the first portable that Sony released - it's a trial by fire," he said. "It's a good platform and you can make amazing things on it. I think that we've tried as much as possible to prove that in the last seven years.

That wasn't enough though, and the PSP was doomed right from the beginning, according to the Ready at Dawn executive.

"It was doomed from the very get-go. There are some things which aren't conductive to calling it a true portable gaming platform and calling it a connective platform, although it has wi-fi.

"There's so many things that publishers and the manufacturer and Sony dropped the ball on - it's natural, it's the first one."

Weerasuriya then said that the problems of the PSP and the PSP Go will actually help the next version of the console, the rumored PSP2, but stopped short of actually confirming that such a model exists.

"That hope that you can have is that they learn from that experience when they make the next one, and that they solve the issues with the PSP and the PSPgo - and also that they learn from what the others are doing," he said.

The PSP originally made its debut way back in 2004, and even if it has went through several upgrades, and the release of the more portable-oriented PSP Go, it didn't manage to really capture the attention of gamers, who were forever in love with the Nintendo DS.

Now, a PSP2 is currently being worked upon, as highlighted by lots of rumors and speculations coming from inside sources.
