Square Enix has announced that the PC version of The Last Remnant is set to arrive in Europe on March 20, complete with total support for the Games for Windows service. This new version of the game is set to bring a host of improvements, including new and much smoother character animations, faster gameplay during battles, the possibility to choose between Japanese and English voice tracks, and an ability for multiple leader units to form unions.

In Europe, the title will be shipped with French, German, Spanish and Italian subtitles and menu screens, making it easier for those who do not speak English or Japanese to get into the game. The PC version of the release also sports a much improved save system that will make sure players will never need to replay battles they have already completed.

John Yamamoto, who is both the president and the Chief Executive Officer at Square Enix Ltd., stated that “We hope to reach a new audience with the Games for Windows version of The Last Remnant. The work that has been put into this version of the game is truly stunning and I hope that fans enjoy this exciting new adventure.”

The story of the game is pretty standard as far as Japanese role playing games go. There are mysterious artifacts called Remnants, which are spread all over the game world. They offer a lot of power to their owner so war for their possession is inevitable. A thousand years later, Rush and Irina, two innocents living in isolation on Eulam Island, are drawn into a conflict involving the Remnants. The player must guide Rush in his quest to discover the fate of his sister Irina.

The release of The Last Remnant might provide a quick fix for JRPG lovers, as they expect more news related to Final Fantasy XIII, which is set to arrive in Europe in 2010.
