Bethesda Softworks has officially announced that it is working on a new video game in the Elder Scrolls franchise which has the subtitle Skyrim and is set to be released on November 11, 2011.

Todd Howard, who is an executive producer working at Bethesda, has unveiled the game at the Video Games Awards ceremony and stated that his team had been working on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the last two years, suggesting that the company might show off a lot more of the game very soon.

The new Elder Scrolls is set to depict events which take place directly after the end of the fourth game in the series, which opens up the possibility that some characters from the game might pop up in the sequel.

Skyrim is a province of Tamriel, set far in the north, with a tough climate which breeds tough inhabitants, with structures that are sometimes built mostly underground to conserve heat.

The fresh game will have an all new game engine with better graphics and character interaction.

Although inhospitable, Skyrim has been claimed by both Elves and Humans since the beginning of time and has been involved in some of the most important events in the history of The Elder Scrolls universe.

The developer has not confirmed the platforms on which the new Elder Scrolls will arrive, but the previous launch history of Bethesda suggests that the game will arrive on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and on the PC, although with a delay.

It's interesting to note that Bethesda has already set a clear date on November 11 for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a day which is pretty close to the traditional launch dates for the Call of Duty series from Activision Blizzard, who is confirmed to get a new game next year.
