This is not an usual handset because it will only work on WiMax networks.

The guys from Samsung have unveiled at the Samsung Mobile WiMax Summit 2006 their latest creation, the Mobile WiMax MITs SPH-M8100, a blue-blooded mobile device that looks down to other aristocratic wannabe handsets. Want to know why this one has the right to be snobbish with no fear of becoming ludicrous? Well, it will work only on WiMax based networks because it has no integrated GSM or CDMA connectivity of any kind. If this is not exclusive, tell me what is.

The lucky customers that will get their hands on this device will also have the opportunity to make use of the IMS (IP multimedia service) that will allow them to reach data speeds of up to 20 Mbps and to use VoIP, push-to-all type services, VOD, voice call, RSS and many others, all of these being in real-time.

Its users will be able to use it as a Wibro modem when the handset is connected to their laptop or PC and at the same time, to watch video content distributed through T-DMB type service and with the help of the TV-OUT functionality to enjoy it on the much bigger display of the TV set.

This upper-class SP-M8100 mobile device runs a Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC operating system, sporting a 2.8 inch 65k color TFT display that is working at a 240x320 resolution, a 2 megapixel digital camera, a 0.3 megapixel VGA one for video calls/conferences, a IEEE 802.16e high speed air interface and a microMMC memory expansion card slot for the ones that feel the need of more storage space (now you should have the big picture complete and be able to understand why you should be ashamed with your mobile phone when going to Korea).

As we are used to, this device will most probably have its debut in Korea but let's hope Samsung will decide to also invite the rest of the world to the party and release it in other parts of the world. Better later than never, isn't that right?
