The guys from Sprint Nextel made a well thought customer oriented decision and, together with the mobile phone manufacturer Motorola, have developed a revolutionary handset, the i880, that will offer a 2 megapixel digital camera, a feature that the Sprint Nextel users haven't been able to get on any iDEN mobile phone offered by their carrier and also one that they have long dreamed off.

Well, it seems their dream has just come true and it took the form of an outstandingly rich in features device that also looks pretty good in its purple AgION anti-bacterian coating (who would have thought that a device fighting germs while making voice calls could look this nice?).

The feature that is the head of the list on its spec sheet is of course the long waited 2 megapixel camera, followed by the 262k colors internal display, the GPS capability, the 64 MB included removable microSD memory card slot, the music player with support for a long list of audio files and which is teaming up with a pair of front dual ported speaker offering surround stereo sound, pre-installed and also downloadable games and Java applications, a datebook, a 600 entries contacts list, a voice recorder, voice dialing and an Internet micro-browser.

Besides this long list, the i880 also has to offer the international and nation-wide Walkie-Talkie service provided by Nextel, together with some other related services like the Group Connect that offers up to 21 participants walkie-talkie conferences, the Direct Talk that ensures you can use the walkie-talkie feature over short distances even when you're in areas that don't have any type of network coverage and, the third, Direct Send that offers the possibility to send contact info and pictures to other Direct Send enabled phones in short periods of time.

Danny Bowman, vice president of product marketing for Sprint, has declared that "with all the latest walkie-talkie services, the i880 allows customers to communicate quickly when it matters most" and also that "the multimedia features make the i880 a well-rounded and attractive phone for businesses and consumers".

If you're planning on getting one for yourself, a fact that I'm pretty sure now after all the good things you read about the i880 in this article, you must know that you have to pay a retail price of 499.99 $ or 299.99 $ with 50 $ rebate only if you sign a two year service agreement and activate a new line.
