ProcessOne, the company that launched TextOne for iPhone a while ago, has just announced that its successful messaging service has been ported on Android. TextOne allows users to communicate with friends via instant messages at no cost. Furthermore, the application is a cross-platform smartphone to smartphone messaging service and community providing users with a free alternative to SMS by offering excellent features and great functionality.

The most important aspect of the app is the addition of group messaging and the “reply all ability.” The latter allows users to reply to the full group, unlike the usual SMS services that only permit users to reply to the original sender of a group message. Even though the messaging service is free “per se,” the application takes advantage of users’ existing data plan or Wi-Fi connection.

According to the developers, TextOne will be able to connect with other third-party communities in the future, thanks to its completely open platform (based on XMPP). At the moment, TextOne can be employed by owners of iPhones and Android-based mobile handsets.

With the advances in smartphones over the last couple of years traditional SMS services are becoming outdated, as users are demanding a more real-time and interactive means of communication", said Mickael Remond CEO of ProcessOne. “With the introduction of TextOne we aim to break down the barriers between iPhone and Android users to provide them with a real-time messaging service. We are also looking at bringing TextOne to other platforms including Symbian and Blackberry in the near future, thereby creating a true cross-platform messaging platform.

Other features of TextOne include: message traceability to avoid message loss; push support and offline messages; no login required; no need for presence or status required as TextOne delivers unobtrusive messages direct to the device; no need for phone number use; TextOne keeps users’ phone number private and makes it compliant with devices without any phone numbers, such as the iPod touch; integration with your existing address books.

TextOne can be downloaded from Android Marketplace for £0.59.
