Telefonica Moviles Espana announced the launch of Novatel Wireless' Ovation MC950D USB Modem, the smallest HSUPA USB modem in the world. Optimized for HSPA networks, the Ovation MC950D is a tri-band HSPA and quad band EDGE/GPRS modem, designed to be extremely durable and to fit comfortably in any pocket.

"We are very pleased to launch the MC950D to meet the growing demand for high-speed 3G mobile data products in Spain," said Luis Ezcurra, director of market development for Telefonica Moviles Espana. "With the introduction of the MC950D, Telefonica Espana reinforces its portfolio of mobile connectivity products, providing customers with a wide range of broadband solutions to meet their needs."

The MC950D offers faster speeds than older mobile data modems, being capable of reaching download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps in the downlink and 2.1 Mbps in the uplink. The increased speeds will allow Telefonica's customers on the go to save considerable time when downloading multimedia content, sending big-sized attachments and more.

In spite of the small form factor (70 x 25 x 12 mm), the Ovation MC950D offers quite an array of features, including fully integrated diversity antennae, receiver diversity (2100 MHz) and equalizer support to improve performance in noisy environments. The device also comes with the Escritorio Movistar Software from Telefonica pre-installed, saving users the trouble of having to manually install drivers from a CD.

"Telefonica's HSPA Network is the ideal platform to support Novatel's next generation mobile data devices," said Rob Hadley, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Novatel Wireless. "Novatel is very pleased to work with Telefonica in providing our combined customers with the world's most advanced mobile broadband solutions."

The Ovation MC950D is expected to be officially launched in September and will be made available through Telefonica's usual sales channels.
