A Wii version was not denied, but seems to be far from being real

Everybody was sure that Rockstar was going to present the first Xbox 360 DLC when Grand Theft Auto: ChinaTown Wars' first image got leaked. You can imagine that it was a real shocker to find out that, actually, the developers were working on an exclusive title for the... Nintendo DS handheld! Nobody was expecting it, having in mind that the GTA series and Nintendo consoles have never been friends. However, it will happen and this seems to confirm once again the fact that Sony's PSP is going down (I'm saying that because of the "Stories" released for Sony's handheld in the past). However, you might be wondering what Take Two is planning to do in the future with its great franchise.

In order to find out details on that, GameDaily interviewed Take Two's CEO Ben Feder. According to him, the publisher was "impressed" with Nintendo (and it seems that's a trend now, since EA are impressed with the Wii, too) and he considers the release as an opportunity to deliver the GTA experience on a handheld - the game will not be a port, but designed specifically for the platform.

One of the first things that come into one's mind when hearing about a Grand Theft Auto IV on DS is: will it be on Wii, too? "I can't comment on it? We're building up assets to develop for the Wii and we're excited about its growth. I can't comment on GTA specifically on the Wii," Feder said and this could mean that we might actually see a title for the casual console! You know, developers and publishers usually deny everything until the "right time" comes and Take Two's CEO didn't.

The only thing he said nothing about is when we get to see some footage from the game, or at least a tiny screenshot. However, that's certainly on the way because Take Two and Rockstar have proved more than once that they know how to market their products. So, we're waiting, it's GTA, after all!
