Texas Instruments Incorporated announced recently the launch of two new models in the OMAP-DM5x family of coprocessors, the OMAP-DM515 and OMAP-DM525. According to the company, the new solutions are aimed at offering an enhanced experience to mobile phone users by delivering the same performance as the one offered by standalone consumer devices.

TI's OMAP-DM5x family of coprocessors is capable of delivering one of the highest megapixel (MP) capability in the industry, the company states, adding that its solutions can offer up to 20 MP still imaging capabilities, along with 720p high-definition (HD) video recording functionality. This way, faster time-to-market and cutting-edge multimedia capabilities are enabled for mobile devices.

The OMAP-DM5x coprocessor family offers a series of features that include: - Digital SLR-"like" imaging - Integrated software that delivers stand-alone consumer electronics quality imaging and video - TV-out capabilities enable content sharing on larger screens - Pin compatibility between all devices allows for easy design upgrades to match changing consumer demands - Eliminates need for external memory - Works with a variety of mobile baseband and application processor solutions, as well as any high-level or real-time operating system.

The SLR-like imaging features of the coprocessors include highest MP support in the industry, as well as 8MP shot-to-shot performance (1.4 frames per second at high-quality and 2 frames per second in burst mode). At the same time, the solutions also come with perfect moment technology (users can select the best image in a series), smart lighting, face tracking, auto scene detector, video noise filter and advanced motion-triggered image stability.

The specs of TI's OMAP-DM515 coprocessor show 12MP capabilities and DVD quality to 720p HD camcorder, while those of the OMAP-DM525 coprocessor show 20MP and DVD quality to 720p HD camcorder.
