Video game publisher THQ has confirmed that it plans to launch Company of Heroes 2 exclusively on the PC during 2013, with a new setting and with a number of evolved strategy-oriented gameplay elements.

THQ has also announced that the entire strategy game will take place on the Eastern Front of World War II and will allow gamers to “take command of the iconic Red Army and repel the Nazi invaders from the very gates of Moscow.”

The game will use the new Essence 3.0 Engine in order to deliver better graphics, more environmental destruction and new gameplay features like Dynamic Battle Tactics, allowing for more option on the battlefield, and new Commander Abilities.

Greg Wilson, who is a producer at Relic Entertainment working on Company of Heroes 2, stated when the game was officially announced that, “Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”

Company of Heroes was first launch in late 2006 and was a revolution in the strategy space because it allowed gamers to focus on a limited number of units, each with meaningful abilities, while also juggling supply routes and resource nodes.

The game was praised by reviewers and players were impressed by the quality of the game and the way Relic managed to blend single and multiplayer modes.

Company of Heroes has since then received two expansions, Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor, introducing more single-player content and more armies to play with.

THQ has recently announced that it was staking its entire future on a number of core video games and that Company of Heroes was one of the titles that will get special attention in the near future.
