THQ wants Vigil to make Darksiders II a best-seller, even if it means a delay is needed

THQ, amidst troubled financial times and several rounds of layoffs, has confirmed that Darksiders II will be released when it’s as close to perfection as possible, even if this might mean a delay for the hack and slash game.

THQ hasn’t been going through the best of times, as after cutting its kids division and laying off staff from its global studios, it announced some more changes to studios like Relic Entertainment and Vigil Games, the latter of which is currently working on Darksiders II.

While the game is still set to appear later this year, at the end of June, THQ’s Executive Vice President of core games, Danny Bilson, has revealed that the publisher will give Vigil as much time as needed to make the title a great experience.

“Darksiders II is looking really, really good,” Bilson told RipTen. “It’s a huge game. It looks like… I don’t want to give the exact amount of hours of gameplay… but it’s a very, very lengthy and involved campaign. We’re going to give that team everything they need to make it as good as it can be.”

When pressed further, Bilson admitted that a delay was possible, depending on how the game presented itself at the beginning of June.

“We haven’t announced anything… but the team is working really, really hard. We’re not going to ship it before it’s done.”

The THQ executive also noted that the recent rounds of layoffs at Vigil, following the transformation of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium from an online game into a single-player one, hadn’t affected the Darksiders II project.

“A lot of that was preserving the most senior and experienced talent in the studio. Honestly, no one who was on any critical path on Darksiders was let go, and no one was let go before they finished their tasks on Darksiders. There’s absolutely no compromise on the Darksiders product whatsoever. That was a high priority for us.”

As of yet, Darksiders II is still on track to appear at the end of June for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
