TD-SCDMA is one of the wireless technologies that should see a great increase in subscribers in the near future. According to Sun Yuwang, president of Leadcore Technology, a provider of TD-SCDMA solutions in China, the number of TD-SCDMA handset subscribers should increase over 20 million during the next year.

China Mobile, the only TD-SCDMA network operator in the country, also expects for the number of subscribers for the technology to increase significantly during the next year, reaching 40 million. Moreover, it seems that other sources in China also said that the TD-SCDMA subscribers based should top 20-40 million.

According a recent post on DigiTimes, Yang Ye, secretary general of China-based TD-SCDMA Alliance, said that “China Mobile's purchase of TD-SCDMA handsets could top 100 million units in 2010.” In order to increase its customer base and to expand the availability of its TD-SCDMA networks, China Mobile is expected to offer TD-SCDMA/GSM dual-mode phones next year.

This way, the carrier should be able to determine its users to choose devices that feature 3G capabilities. Mobile phones that will come to the market with Leadcore's TD-SCDMA solutions on board are expected to come from companies like HTC, Asustek Computer, Acer, BenQ, and the Foxconn Group, among others.

In related news, we learn that HTC plans on delivering TD-LTE handsets that should serve to testing purposes during the upcoming Shanghai Expo 2010. Moreover, the handset vendor is expected to further work on the development of such devices and to cooperate with China Mobile on their production.

DigiTimes says that HTC CEO Peter Chou also stated that the company was currently focused on meeting the strong demand its HTC Hero saw on Sprint Nextel in the US, and the HTC HD2 in Europe. The company expects its November revenues to reach NT$15-16 billion (US$465.84-496.89 million) up from NT$12.7 billion in October.
