Telecommunications infrastructure vendor Huawei announced recently the deployment of the first TD-LTE/SAE trial network for the wireless carrier China Mobile. According to the company, the new network is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 29Mb/s, and is meant to be used for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

“This state-of-the-art network covers the whole site of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, which will fully demonstrate the capability of TD-LTE technology,” Wang Jianzhou, chairman and chief executive officer of China Mobile, commented on the roll-out. The wireless carrier, the largest in China and the largest in the world by number of subscribers, is the only one starting the deployment of a TD-SCDMA 3G network in the country.

According to Huawei, not only has it deployed the new TD-LTE radio access network and SAE core network for China Mobile, but it has also provided the carrier with the necessary chipsets and terminals. Moreover, the company added that the new infrastructure, as well as the terminals associated with it, were meant to support high definition (HD) video transmission, HD video monitoring, HD video-on-demand (VOD), and mobile Internet, and would be used for live broadcasting and security during the upcoming event.

“TD-LTE/SAE technologies have the advantage of low latency and high spectrum efficiency and are increasingly gaining recognition from operators and other telecom organizations,” said Li Changzhu, vice president of China Marketing, Huawei. “A range of significant technical innovations will be showcased during the Expo, and this TD-LTE/SAE trial network is one of the most exciting to be deployed at the event. This network adopts Huawei's integrated LTE solution of FDD and TDD technologies, as well as the SAE core network which is being used in world-leading operators' network modernization.”

Huawei is already an active player in the LTE deployment area. The company has been selected for LTE roll-outs by TeliaSonera, and is also the vendor of choice for Telenor's LTE network. So far, the company managed to deploy more than 20 LTE/SAE trials around the world, Huawei added.
