Mobile phone carrier T-Mobile USA is gearing up for the launch of a new Sidekick device on its airwaves, namely the Android-based T-Mobile Sidekick 4G, and some info on the handset's release date has just emerged into the wild.

According to a recent tweet from RadioShack, the new mobile phone might become available for purchase as soon as April 20th.

T-Mobile did not unveil specific details on when it would make the device available for its users, but RadioShack notes that it would have it available on that day.

The new device arrives on shelves at T-Mobile with a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and a fast 1GHz Hummingbird application processor inside, and Google's Android 2.2 operating system on board.

The smartphone comes with the popular design of the T-Mobile Sidekick, enhanced with the power of Google, the wireless carrier notes.

“The T-Mobile Sidekick makes a triumphant return as a high-performance, Android-powered smartphone running at blazing-fast speeds on America’s Largest 4G Network,” the wireless carrier notes on its website.

Some of the main features of the new handset would include:

• Texting evolved: Reply-all Group Text and texting from the web with Cloud Text • Lighting-fast 4G data download speeds • Front-facing camera for T-Mobile Video Chat powered by Qik • 3.5 inch touch screen, speedy 1 Ghz processor, five-row QWERTY keyboard

The mobile phone sports a special user interface, the so called Sidekick UI, and also includes video call support, complemented by a front-facing camera, along with dedicated emoticon and voice control keys.

Previously, the new device was confirmed to come to the market with a price tag of $99.99 attached to it, with a $50 mail-in rebate included in the mix, and the signing of a two-year contract on an unlimited monthly plan.

If purchased with a limited data package, the new T-Mobile Sidekick 4G would sport a price tag of $149.99 on a two-year contract as well.
