T-Mobile's G1 is now reported to get an updated operating system, namely the highly expected “Cupcake” Android update, as soon as next month. As many of you might already know, the new platform was expected to surface in the wild about two months ago for the first time, yet it seems that this time it will get officially released in April.

From what Pocket-lint reports, the T-Mobile spokesperson they have been talking to has announced the near launch, while also stating that it will not be connected with the launch of the HTC Magic, the second Android-based mobile phone. The new update is expected to bring along some system improvements, as well as fixes for the bugs that made a lot of G1 users unhappy.

On the other hand, the fact that G2 will soon come to the market might affect in a way G1's performance. Although the handset made a good general impression, it has not been as successful as one would have hoped for in the first place.

One thing that might suggest that T-Mobile is preparing itself to see G2 released soon is the fact that the first Android handset is now available for purchase on Amazon for only $97.99. As many of you might already know, the device is available with T-Mobile US for $179.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement, in black, white or bronze.

Amazon has the phone for said price upon the signing of another two-year contract agreement with the carrier. This would mean that those who already have a contract signed with the operator will not be able to benefit from the offering unless they ink another agreement. At the same time, it seems that the stocks of the device on discount are not too large, so those who would like to acquire it should hurry up a little.
