Offers 4G-like speeds on 16 of its 3G devices

Today, wireless carrier T-Mobile announced the launch of HSPA+ on its 3G network in new markets around the United States. According to the company, its fast network offers enhanced connectivity to a number of over 85 million Americans at the moment, and should be able to provide 4G-like speeds to100 major metropolitan areas by the end of the ongoing year, covering a number of 185 million people in the U.S.

A number of around 50 major metropolitan areas in the country can now benefit from the enhanced speeds, while users are able to try them out on a number of 16 of T-Mobile’s current 3G devices. The super-fast HSPA+ network is set to offer users impressive download and upload speeds, while the said devices should offer a much better mobile experience than before. Moreover, the carrier announced that it plans on launching a HSPA+-capable smartphone later during the summer. Although no official details on this were unveiled, rumor has it that it should be an Android-based handset from HTC.

T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network now offers 4G speeds to more people than any other wireless network in the country,” said Neville Ray, chief network officer for T-Mobile USA. “The aggressive pace of our HSPA+ network rollout means our customers can enjoy a better mobile broadband experience on more devices in more places today—but we’re not done yet. Our first HSPA+ smartphone is coming soon and our footprint will double between now and the end of the year.”

At the moment, T-Mobile customers in the US can take full advantage of the speed enhancements brought by the new HSPA+ network service via T-Mobile webConnect broadband products. The wireless carrier announced that these devices have been made available for purchase in a wider range of markets than before, and that users in all HSPA+ areas can purchase them from T-Mobile retail stores. The offering includes the webConnect Rocket USB Laptop Stick and the the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with T-Mobile webConnect.

Starting today, T-Mobile's customers should be able to purchase a new device from the carrier, namely the webConnect Rocket 2.0 USB Laptop Stick, an updated version of the first HSPA+-capable device. The stick sports a rotating swivel USB form factor, can offer performance levels similar with those offered by its predecessor, while enabling users take full benefits from T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network.

Users in nearly 50 major metropolitan areas across the US can enjoy T-Mobile HSPA+, including the newly added Austin, El Paso, Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Waco, Texas; Baltimore, Md.; Baton Rouge and Lafayette, La.; Birmingham, Ala.; Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio; Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville, Fla.; Greenville, S.C.; Honolulu, Hawaii; Indianapolis, Ind.; Kansas City and St. Louis, Mo.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Portland, Ore.; and Wichita, Kan. Moreover, the network has been expanded in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. 4G speeds are now available for customers in Alexandria, McLean and Reston, Va.; Anaheim, Burbank, Glendale, Irvine, Long Beach, and Ontario, CA; Annapolis, Bethesda and Chevy Chase, Md.; and Asheville and Hickory, N.C.
