Electronic Arts has confirmed that the upcoming reboot of the Syndicate franchise, coming from Starbreeze Studios, will be out at the end of February, next year.

Quite a lot of gamers weren't pleased earlier this month, as Electronic Arts, together with developer Starbreeze, announced that the old Syndicate franchise, which became famous for its real time strategy gameplay back in the 1990s, is being rebooted, this time as a first person shooter.

While the rumor of this overhaul was floating around for quite some time, it became official at the beginning of the month, when both companies admitted that the Syndicate series is now being turned into a first person shooter.

"Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic," said Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer, when the game was announced.

"Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience."

Now, the companies have confirmed, via GamaSutra, that the game will be released on February 21, 2012, in North America, and February 24, in Europe, for platforms like the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Before the announcement, made by EA at a special press conference in Las Vegas, during which it also confirmed Shank 2, Syndicate had an early 2012 release schedule.

The new title is going to deliver a "unique and brutal sci-fi first-person shooter experience set in a not too distant future, where business is war." Players will control Miles Kilo, a new prototype agent from Eurocorp, and "embark on an epic action adventure full of corruption and revenge."
