A leak that originated with the Electronic Arts maintained Origin digital distribution service has confirmed that the much talked about Project Redlime from the Starbreeze studio is actually a remake of the old Syndicate series, which has been created by Bullfrog.

It seems that the motto for the new game will be: “Business is war”.

The game itself will be an action shooter, as reported on NeoGAF, which is quite a move away from the real time tactics and strategy offered by the original, and players will take on the role of someone named Miles Kilo, who is a prototype agent created by Eurocorp.

The new Syndicate will take place in the year 2069 and will see Eurocorp battling a number of other Syndicates around the planet for the right to distribute its own digital products to customers.

Something called a “neural DART6 chip implant that allows you to interface directly with the Dataverse” will be one of the main gameplay tools, allowing gamers to slow down time, interact with a number of objects and see through walls.

The story of the Syndicate reboot will be written by Richard Morgan, who recently also worked on the narrative for the Crysis 2 first person shooter from Crytek.

The leak also revealed that the new Syndicate game will include four player cooperative play that will use nine of the missions seen in the original, updated to use the mechanics of the new title.

It seems that the next issue of the GameReactor magazine in Sweden will have a full reveal for the new Syndicate video game, with Rickard Johansson tweeting an image taken from it that has since been deleted.

It's not clear when the rebooted Syndicate will launch but the main platforms will probably include the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the PC and possibly the Nintendo Wii U.

UPDATE: EA Partners, through producer Jeff Gamon, commented, "Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today's gamers as well as fans of the original. I'm sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic."
