Susan Boyle gets second number 1 album, as holiday offering “The Gift” drops

Susan Boyle is doing it again: her holiday album “The Gift” has just bumped Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” on the Billboard 200 chart and, in doing so, has set a new record for an album of the kind.

Having an album from the Scottish singer go straight to number 1 is not a first, since her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream” not only did that, but also went on to become the biggest selling material of 2009 and officially the biggest debut from a female singer ever.

Since she became an “Internet sensation” thanks to her audition on the British televised competition Britain’s Got Talent, where she finished second, Susan has been taking down records one by one.

She won’t be stopping anytime soon, either, since estimates clearly indicate that she’s bound to leave competition in the dust with “The Gift” as well, PopEater reports.

First things first, though: “Billboard just announced that Susan Boyle’s holiday album, ‘The Gift,’ has bumped Taylor Swift from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart,” the e-zine notes.

“Speak Now” occupied the leading position for 2 consecutive weeks – until Susan came along. “The Gift” has already moved 317,600 copies since release.

And Swift won’t be the only “victim” to Susan’s success either, since she’s also gunning for Rihanna in the charts, with odds tipping Susan for the winner.

“Industry sources reveal that Boyle’s album is presently running neck-and-neck with Rihanna’s highly-anticipated new album ‘Loud,’ which was released Tuesday. While the race for next week’s No. 1 is reportedly air tight, Boyle is projected to surpass the pop star and top the charts again,” PopEater also notes.

As far as she’s concerned, while ecstatic about the idea of having another number 1 album, Susan Boyle is just happy she gets to live her dream: that of having her music reach out to as many people possible.

“Singing is the best job in the world, it really is fantastic. I’m just an ordinary woman who showed a bit of determination and this is what has happened. To have a second No.1 album is wonderful and something I never expected,” the singer says for the same e-zine with her trademark modesty.

“Music has always been a companion to me, particularly on special occasions. I wanted there to be a mix of songs that would flow with all our moods this holiday season. As much as the season is a time for reflection, it is also a time for fun and enjoyment with those closest to us,” Susan adds of “The Gift.”
