505 Games, as the publisher, and Kung Fu Factory, as the developer, have announced that the official launch date for the upcoming Supremacy MMA fighting game is now set for September 23, with the game prepared for launch on the Xbox 360 home gaming console from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony.

This Mixed Martial Arts-based title is set to get away from the strict realism of other titles based on the sport and will offer a mix of arcade gameplay and styles taken from MMA.

Ian Howe, who is the president of the North American division of 505 Games, has stated, “Supremacy MMA is an extremely important new IP for 505 Games and represents another level of depth to our growing roster of games. With that in mind, we believe the tremendous value of the title combined with the overwhelmingly positive response we’ve had from consumers and writers during early gameplay sneak peeks, tells us this title deserves to launch in the thick of the autumn buying season.”

Ricci Rukavina, who is the creative director at developers Kung Fu Factory, added, “There’s a huge opening in the market with no retail fighting games, and specifically no MMA games, hitting this fall so we’re ready to deliver a title that exceeds the expectations of MMA and arcade fighter fans alike.”

Supremacy MMA does not aim to deliver only the sanctioned matches that would be players can see on television and will allow gamers to create a character that also takes place in bloody, violent and ruleless underground matches.

Some MMA fans have seen the focus on violence as a marketing ploy which devalues the MMA universe.

The game from Kung Fu Factory also has a simpler control scheme than the rivals from THQ, aiming to attract even those who are just casual MMA fans and cannot be bothered to learn a complex controller layout.
