Publisher 505 Games has announced that it has enlisted the help of former lightweight champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Jens Pulver, in order to develop and launch a new mixed martial arts based video game, called Supremacy MMA, which is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft at some point during the summer of this year.

Jens Pulver has said, “I’ve been up, down and every direction in between and I ain’t done yet, so stories like mine are perfect for a hard-hitting game like Supremacy MMA. Having seen the game and how true to the soul of the sport it is, I’m glad that this is the game I get to be a part of.”

Pulver will be a consultant for both the combat and the story side of Supremacy MMA and will also advertise the game in his fights, with the first one taking place in January 22 in Woodstock, Chicago, with the live broadcast delivered by 505 Games in partnership with GameSpot.

Supremacy MMA will not have any official license from the major franchises and aims to show off the brutality and power of fights that are taking place in unsanctioned and amateur promotions.

It seems that 505 Games is aiming for a fighting game that mixes the complex moves of the MMA styles with an easy to understand interface and a more video game style presentation which would not be out of place in something like Mortal Kombat.

Ralph Pitt-Stanley, who is the commercial director at 505 Games, has said, “Supremacy MMA is as much about telling the fighter’s story as it is about delivering blistering fast gameplay that’s as brutal as the real thing, so we knew we had to get Jens for our game.”

He added, “His climb through the ranks of the underground into the pro spotlight and his willingness to continue to fight regardless of what title he bears exemplifies the fighter’s heart that Supremacy MMA portrays.”
