Although JMicron doesn't have the best reputation out there when it comes down to building SSD controllers, the company says that all the troubles experienced by users just a short while ago are behind then now with their second generation of controllers, and Super Talent seems to agree with them since they based the UltraDrive MX SSD on such a controller.

Available in 60GB, 120GB, 240 and 480GB capacities, the UltraDrive MX SSD family features dual interfaces (USB and SATA II) allowing customers to easily upgrade their systems, since the drive can be connected via USB in order to create an image of their hard-drive thus making the HDD to SSD transition as seamless as possible.

Furthermore, the drives performance will surely make this entire process worthwhile, since Super Talent says their SSD unit can reach an impressive 250MB/s read and 180MB/s write speeds, thanks to that JMicron 616 controller that now makes use of 64MB cache memory.

Although I don't know how well will this drive perform over longer periods of time, the JMicron 616 does come with TRIM support, so it shouldn't suffer from performance degradation problems as the company's previous SSD processors have.

"Most customers know that Solid State Disks offer superior performance, reliability and power savings, yet they have been unable to makes the switch.

The dual-interface on the UltraDrive MX enables a convenient bridge solution during this critical transition period," said SuperTalent COO, Mr. CH Lee.

As far as pricing is concerned, the 480GB version of the UltraDrive MX SSD will come with a rather hefty $1,199.99 price tag, so this is basically in the same price range as some OCZ, SandForce based offerings making this a hard sell especially when considering the performance and reliability that you get out of the SandForce based drives.
