Nintendo has announced that three classic games will soon arrive as digital offerings for the 3DS and DSi handheld platforms, in the form of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Metroid 2: Return of Samus, for the first console, and The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, for the latter.

Nintendo has seemingly started to focus on bringing many of its classic titles to its current platforms, through online services like the DSiWare, for the Nintendo DSi, or the eShop, for the 3DS device.

After the Japanese company confirmed that 20 games will be deployed onto the eShop later this year, all of them free for those that bought the 3DS at full price, before the recent price cut, new titles are now being announced for the digital service.

These new games include two classic sequels that arrived for the GameBoy platform back in the early 1990s, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Metroid 2: Return of Samus.

The first marked the introduction of Mario's evil alter-ego, Wario, who is the main villain, while the second game saw Samus engage in a huge adventure, much bigger than the one seen in the first Metroid title.

Both games are scheduled to arrive later this year, so Nintendo 3DS owners have even more reasons to keep checking the eShop each week.

For players who still cling to their older DSi platform, Nintendo is preparing The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, which is set to arrive next month completely free.

In case you don't remember, Four Swords was bundled for the Game Boy Advance platform alongside The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and allowed players to partner up with three other friends and play as four versions of protagonist Link, solving puzzles and engaging in boss fights.

No word yet if this cooperative mode will be available online or just locally, but DSi owners can expect more details in September, when it is released.
