Video game developer BioWare has just launched Rise of the Rakghouls, the first major update for their MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, but the company is keen to let players know that they are not taking it easy from now on and that solid support for the game is planned for the future.

The overall aim of the development team working on the MMO is to explore the universe of the Star Wars franchise as the game progresses while expanding the backstory for the involved factions.

Speaking on the official website of The Old Republic James Ohlen, who is the game director, has stated, “There’s much more to come. We have another major update planned for March and future content arriving throughout 2012 and 2013. We plan to release new Operations, Flashpoints, Warzones, Space Missions, single player content, vehicles, and companion characters.”

He added, “We’ll always be improving our existing game with additions like guild banks, PVP ranked matches and interface customization. Our Legacy system expands in March, bringing more options and a new level of depth to the existing character classes.”

Ohlen has also hinted that the developers might launch small surprises for the player base between the major updates, suggesting events like a Republican strike on Dromund Kass, one of the most important planets for the Sith, or a mysterious fleet assaulting the Core Worlds, where the Republic draws much of its strength from.

Rise of the Rakghouls has already made an impact, with a number of players reporting that the update has introduced some potential game breaking bugs.

BioWare will likely fix them as soon as possible.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was launched on December 20 of last year and has managed to quickly get 1 million players who have put in more than 60 million hours in about two weeks of game time.
