BioWare, shortly before revealing the actual release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic, its upcoming online role playing game, talked about its launch and how it could the biggest one in the history of online gaming.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is by far one of the most anticipated games of the year, as legions of Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting to see what BioWare has been working on for quite some time. We've already been treated to an array of information, as well as quite a videos of actual gameplay.

Now, the project lead, James Ohlen, talked with Gamasutra about the logistics of the actual launch and how the team at BioWare is now just polishing up the tutorials and making sure the technology used will be able to withstand the load of millions of gamers accessing it at once.

"The thing about a massively multiplayer game is that it's different from any other game out there, because you have this vast online community all over the world online at the same time, and you have to make sure there's no way for your game to be hacked."

"You have to have very strong security, your game has to stand up if you have hundreds of players in one zone at the same time. There's a lot of things that we've never had to worry about at BioWare before."

With all the huge interest in the game as well as its massive fanbase, BioWare is expecting the biggest online launch in history, at least according to Ohlen.

"And the fact is, because of the hype around the game right now, our launch numbers are predicting something really huge, which means we have to be ready for the biggest online launch in history essentially, which has made it really tough. We've been running a lot of tests, just making sure we're going to stand up when we launch."

Star Wars: The Old Republic is out for the PC on December 20, in North America, and December 22, in Europe.
