In a rather surprising move, BioWare, LucasArts and Electronic Arts, the three companies behind the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO have finally confirmed a release date for the online RPG, which is December 20, for North American users, and December 22, for Europe.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been a long time coming, with the development team at BioWare working hard to deliver a great online role playing experience based on LucasArts’ Star Wars universe, and set to be published by Electronic Arts.

Now, after an agonizing wait, the companies have finally come forward with an official release date for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

“This is an incredible moment for everyone at BioWare and our partners at LucasArts who have dedicated their lives to build this extraordinary game. We appreciate the patience from the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release,” the co-founders of BioWare, Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk revealed about the announcement.

What’s more, besides finally pinning a launch date for The Old Republic, BioWare also detailed the subscription plans for the online game, so that players will know what options they can choose after the 30-day subscription included with the retail game expires.

Each copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic will come with 30 days of subscription time, after which you have the option to continue playing with one of the following monthly subscription fees:

1 Month Subscription: $14.99 (£8.99/€12.99) 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month (one-time charge of $41.97/£25.17/€35.97) 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month (one-time charge of $77.94/£46.14/€65.94) While Star Wars: The Old Republic is officially out towards the end of December, customers who’ve already pre-ordered the game can enter their code on this website so that they can be eligible for Early Game Access.

In case you’ve yet to pre-order the new online game, you can do so at a variety of game retailers as well as through EA’s own Origin digital distribution service.
