And also ended for the first time today, as the site crashed from the overwhelming number of applications

Great news from BioWare regarding their Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG. Today a beta registration for the game has been opened up on the official game site. Not such great news is that the site crashed soon after news of the beta registration spread. Not good news for all the eager fans out there, but definitely great news for BioWare. If the developers weren't sure just how gamers would receive this upcoming game, then this is a clear state of intention. The people of the world want to see what this game is about.

The turntable of up and down events takes another turn. After a frustrating maintenance message that promised "the site will be back up in the next few hours” was all that the site could offer, it seems it's finally up and running again. The beta registration is still ongoing and apparently applicants will have to pass the developer's test. Not everyone that clicks the “Oh God yes, I want to play this game” button will receive a beta account. As the beta application clearly states, as long as you actually read what is there and not just race through the next button, “All applications are subject to the review of BioWare and LucasArts and may be accepted or rejected in BioWare and LucasArts' sole discretion. Submission of an application and agreement to the terms does not guarantee your participation in the test.”

What exactly makes up their discretion remains to be seen. All you can do is fill in the application, clutch you hands and say a prayer 'cause it seems you'll need all the help you can get since the site is back online. Considering the huge response they received the beta registration could be over by as soon as tomorrow. With this demand for beta keys there will be no surprise if people start to make multiple applications and sell the extra ones in search of profit.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that will take place in the Star Wars universe. Players will be able to join one of two factions, the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire, and each faction will have its own separate classes. The game focuses on distinguishing between the player’s faction and morality and each character will follow its own story. Character development will be greatly influenced by the choices and quest the character takes, opening new paths at the cost of losing others.
