Undoubtedly, the Final Fantasy franchise is one of the most (if not the most) successful in the RPG genre. Square Enix has provided gamers with the most character-filled game set in a fantasy setting with tons of ports and sequels since the 8-bit era to date. Recently though, Square Enix has announced the release of the Final Fantasy XI Starter Pack, for the PC. They suggested the lowest price ever: 4.99 [admark=1]Pounds.

As the official report informs, the Final Fantasy XI Starter Pack will be released on the 20th of July and is the ideal inexpensive introduction into the MMORPG genre. Included with the Starter Pack are the PlayOnline Viewer, Tetra Master online card game and the original Final Fantasy XI software. That's not all though: purchasers will also be able to enjoy a one-month free trial to the online world.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer Final Fantasy XI to a whole new spectrum of gamers at such a competitive price," said John Yamamoto, President and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd., "We are confident that this release, coupled with recent gameplay changes and the forthcoming Wings of the Goddess? expansion pack will encourage even more to try what is an exciting and prolific online experience."

Final Fantasy XI is different from the previous titles in the series in many ways. The player is able to choose traits, including race, gender, face, hair color, body size, job, and nationality. Unlike previous Final Fantasy games, all battles occur in real time, and enemies are no longer randomly encountered. There are 32 worlds (a cluster of servers) available for play, and one world used by Square-Enix. Servers use names of summons from previous Final Fantasy titles such as Ifrit and Diabolos. PC, PS2, and Xbox 360 players from across all geographic locations play together on the same servers.
