Owners of a Nexus S 4G smartphone on Sprint's airwaves have now the possibility to download and install on their devices a new version of the Swype keyboard, an exclusive offer available as as part of a collaboration between the two.

The new flavor of the already highly popular software keyboard is available only for Nexus S 4G owners on Sprint's airwaves for the time being, but should be released for the general public in the next few weeks.

The new release is a special trial version of Swype, which will expire on December 31, 2011, the development team explains.

The new application release comes with a nice range of features into the mix, including shortcut gestures, personal dictionary management, or a custom skin.

“Get the latest update to Swype on the Nexus S 4G featuring a custom skin, Tap Correction, Horizontal Word Choice List, personal dictionary management, and shortcut gestures,” Swype explains.

With the new application flavor, users will be able choose between the original Swype keyboard and a new, custom keyboard.

Nexus S 4G users who would like to take advantage of the new application release brought to them by Sprint will need to head over to the Swype website here to register with an email address so as to receive a link to download the software.

One thing that should be noted here is that the email should be accessible from the phone, as the link will work only on the mobile device.

As soon as the email arrived, users will need to click on the first link in it, wait for the file to download and choose to install it. First, they should make sure that the phone is set to allow the installation of apps from unknown sources, so that the process won't be interrupted.

This will put the Swype installer on the phone. After launching the application, users need to sign in with the email and password used for registration, enter the 5 digit code they received in the registration email, and then select the Swype version they would like to download.

You can have a look at the video below to learn more on how to download and install Swype on Nexus S 4G. Specific info on what users will need to do to enable Swype on their handsets can be found here.
