Will detail the update in April

Wireless carrier Sprint promised a while back a software update for its customers owning an HTC Hero or a Samsung Moment, namely the Android 2.1 update, yet it seems that it will still take some time before it delivers the solution. Previous rumors suggested that the update would arrive before the end of March, but the carrier now reportedly states that it will detail it in April.

[ADMARk=1]A Sprint employee said recently that the carrier had sent out a memo to its staff, informing them that the Android 2.1 update will not come in March, “Let your customers know we are actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks. Look for more information coming in April about Android 2.1 platform for Hero and Moment.”

For what it's worth, these are not the best possible news for Sprint's customers using an Android-based device. The carrier announced a few months ago that it would release the Android 2.1 update, and even said at one point that it shouldn't have been long before the solution arrived on HTC Hero or Samsung Moment, but it seems that we'll still have to wait a little longer before it decides to release it.

However, this piece of info is now delivered only by a single Sprint employee, and it might remain in the rumors side after all. One the other hand, Sprint wouldn't be the first carrier to delay the Android 2.1 update, that's for sure. Verizon and Motorola promised the solution for the high-end DROID about a month ago, and started rolling it out only a few days ago, and only to test users, as the latest reports on the matter pointed out.

One way or the other, Sprint still commits to the Android 2.1 update for its users, and we should sit tight and wait to see when exactly it plans on delivering it. Hopefully, that will happen sooner rather than later. Keep an eye on this space for more info on the matter.
