It’s been two weeks since HTC deployed the Honeycomb update to most European Flyer tablets and everyone thought that North American users will be left out completely. Fortunately this will not happen to Sprint customers.

The carrier has just announced the availability of the Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb update for the HTC EVO View 4G, also known as HTC Flyer.

According to Sprint, the update is rolling out OTA (over the air) in stages, so customers should be automatically notified on the availability of Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb.

The update is 217MB in size and brings HTC’s first Android tablet software to Honeycomb, though the operating system will soon become as obsolete as Gingerbread.

Sprint customers who own the HTC EVO View 4G tablet and plan on upgrading to Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb should know that due to the update’s structure, their layout of widgets and screen setup will not be maintained after the upgrade.

Basically, as soon as the update process completes, the tablet will revert to the stock home screen layout, which means that wallpapers, widgets, as well as other application shortcuts will have to be personalized again.

Apart from brining the slate’s firmware version to Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb, the update adds a new virtual and holographic user interface, as well as new features and improvements:

- Physical Hard keys replaced with on screen Soft keys;

- New Google search, available on every page;

- System Bar: Quick access to notifications, status, and soft navigation buttons available at the bottom of the screen;

- Notifications menu moved to the bottom right corner of the screen, on the System Bar;

- The Action Bar—which can be accessed by touching the Plus Sign icon at the top right of the screen—is the key to contextual, changing menus that are controlled by each application;

- Enhanced security including Sprint Data Link and 3LM.

In addition, the update fixes an issue with the Google video chat function and the Bluetooth support in Airplane mode.
