Very early beta, NOT available for the HTC EVO View 4G

Unveiled back in February, during the 2011 Mobile World Congress, HTC Flyer is one of the first tablets to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Given the fact that Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb did not support smaller screen tablets at launch, HTC was forced to release the Flyer with an older iteration of the platform.

Although the Taiwanese handset maker stated that the HTC Flyer will receive its Honeycomb upgrade sometime in the coming months, it did not specified an exact date for the deployment of the update.

However, we've just received word, courtesy to the guys over at MoDaCo (via Paul O'Brien), that Honeycomb for HTC Flyer is already in the works, but it still needs lots of polishing.

The things get even more interesting as an official Honeycomb ROM has just leaked and is now available for download for HTC Flyer owners.

Published by MoDaCo user Paul, the ROM was leaked in RUU form and does not work on the HTC EVO View 4G tablet.

According to Paul, HTC classifies this ROM as “an early Beta,” something that HTC Flyer owners should take into consideration before deciding to flash it.

Because of its “beta” status we do not recommend HTC Flyer users to flash the ROM unless they are developers.

This is mainly for tech-savvy users who are advised to flash only parts of the ROM, which will be made available via the aforementioned source, as a fully tested build.

There's a high chance that the official ROM will make the HTC Flyer tablet unrootable or even unable to be flashed with an older build.

The rest of HTC Flyer users should wait patiently for their official Honeycomb upgrade, which should be available OTA (over the air) by the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
