Wireless carrier Sprint announced today the launch of a new device for its users, the Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot by Sierra Wireless. According to the company, the new device offers users the possibility to connect a number of up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the Sprint 4G network, thus providing them with transfer speeds that are ten times faster than those delivered by 3G networks. Those who will purchase the Overdrive will be able to connect a wide range of devices to the network, including laptops, gaming devices, cameras and smartphones.

“This device delivers the connected lifestyle to our customers in overdrive,” said Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO. “The fact that it connects up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices is especially meaningful because at 4G speeds, customers can download and upload more data—gigabytes, not megabytes—in a matter of seconds. The Overdrive on the 4G network is made for the multitude of bandwidth-hungry applications customers want to access wirelessly, like video streaming. 4G beats 3G for speed and for value.”

The new Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot is set to offer a great deal of benefits to users no matter whether they are, at home, on the go or at the office. Not to mention that it opens the door towards wireless streaming of HD content, as well as towards a much improved Internet navigation experience. One can easily stream favorite shows via Overdrive, or set a small mobile office anywhere it is needed. Furthermore, it can offer connectivity to both Sprint 4G network (available in 27 markets in the US) and Sprint’s Mobile Broadband Network.

“Sierra Wireless places a high priority on making our products simple to use, and we have put considerable time and effort into ensuring that Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot delivers the easiest user experience of any mobile hotspot on the market,” said Jason Cohenour, CEO of Sierra Wireless. “Its simplicity, combined with its compact portability, and security, makes Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot ideal for both personal and business use in a variety of situations.”

The Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot is set to become available for purchase as soon as January 10 is here, exclusively from Sprint. It is priced at $99.99 (without taxes) after a $50 mail-in rebate and upon the signing of a two-year service agreement with the carrier. Those interested in the device can find it and 3G/4G plans available at select Sprint retail stores and select Best Buy stores, via the carrier's business sales, Telesales and online on Sprint's website.
