On Thursday, rumors on the possible delay of Sprint's BlackBerry Curve 9350 emerged into the wild, suggesting that the wireless carrier might be set to have the new device available for purchase only in October, and not today, as originally promised. Only a few hours after we published our report on the matter, Sprint stepped up and confirmed in an official announcement that the new mobile phone will become available for purchase only next month.

Unfortunately, the wireless carrier did not offer a specific explanation for the delay, nor did it confirm a specific availability date for the device.

“Due to unexpected circumstances, Sprint shifted the launch of the BlackBerry Curve 9350 smartphone beyond the planned Sept. 9 availability date,” the company announced.

“It will now go on sale in October with a specific availability date shared at a later time,” the wireless carrier continued.

This is the latest addition to RIM's already popular Curve series, meant to offer increased performance and capabilities in an affordable form-factor that users should already be accustomed with.

“The next generation of Research In Motion’s (RIM) popular BlackBerry Curve series of smartphones, BlackBerry Curve 9350, offers the latest BlackBerry operating system – BlackBerry 7. It is a fast, affordable, easy-to-use, full-featured and socially connected smartphone,” Sprint notes.

The BlackBerry Curve 9350 comes with a fast processor inside, 512MB RAM, 2.44-inch screen, a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, support for memory cards of up to 32GB, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR support, and the like.

The new mobile phone was also packed with BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), fast access to Flickr, MySpace and Facebook, Near Field Communications (NFC), access to the BlackBerry App World for downloading applications, and with fast web browsing courtesy of the BlackBerry 7 OS it runs under.

The new BlackBerry Curve handset was made official only a few weeks ago, yet it already became available for purchase on the airwaves of various wireless carriers in North America.
