Mobile phone carrier Sprint announced recently that its Sprint 4G services are now available in one more market around the United States, namely in Honolulu. The new launch is set to enable users enjoy impressively faster speeds when it comes to file downloads, video streaming or Internet browsing, not only when they are at home or in the office, but also when they are on the go, anywhere in the Honolulu area.

The new launch is one of the first Sprint made for its 4G services in the United States. The first market to see the next-generation services from the company was Baltimore in September 2008, and now a number of 27 markets in the country can enjoy the services from the company. Sprint 4G, delivered over Clearwire's CLEAR 4G WiMAX network, can provide data transfer rates up to 10 times faster than those offered by 3G.

The availability of the new services is set to offer new possibilities for developers and businesses, the company stated. While developers can deliver innovative apps based on 4G, businesses have a wide range of possibilities to choose from. “Retailers can implement wireless voice and data solutions for their outlets; health care professionals can improve their ability to remotely monitor patients; emergency first responders can rapidly assess and coordinate disaster action with real-time on-site video and audio; educators can enhance distance learning with two-way interactive live video; while photo-journalists can instantly transfer high-resolution images to the newsroom,” Sprint notes.

The markets that now enjoy WiMAX in the US include Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland, Ore., San Antonio and Seattle. Sprint 4G also reached Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Waco and Wichita Falls, Texas; Bellingham, Wash.; Boise, Idaho; Charlotte, Greensboro (along with High Point and Winston-Salem), Raleigh (along with Cary, Chapel Hill and Durham), N.C.; Honolulu; Maui, Hawaii; Milledgeville, Ga.; Salem, Ore. In 2010, Sprint says it plans on delivering 4G services to markets like Boston, Houston, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
