A new mobile application has just been launched for the owners of devices running under Microsoft's Windows Phone

operating system, namely Spotify.

The app will provide users with fast access to millions of songs that are available through the Spotify subscription service.

Thus, users will be able to access favorite music wherever they go, at all times, all straight from the handset in their hands.

The service will cost you $9.99 (a bit over 7 Euros) a month, and will also provide great social networking features.

With Spotify, users will be able to share their music with friends and contacts on Facebook, Twitter, and Windows Messenger.

However, there are other appealing capabilities that the new Spotify application arrives on Windows Phone with as well.

Some of the main features of the new application include:

- Browse and play your friends’ Spotify top tracks, artists , and playlists (I was surprised to see how many of my Facebook friends were on Spotify and even more surprising to see what they’re rockin’).

- Pin your playlists as Live Tiles to your Start screen for fast access (something I’ve done numerous times with the Bluetooth stereo connection in my car).

- Play music in the background while running other apps or when your phone is locked.

- Pause, play, or change tracks when your phone is locked with universal controls

Some more details on what the new application for Windows Phone is all about can be found in a video that Microsoft published on Channel9 here.

The application is meant to become available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace later today, a recent post on Microsoft's Windows Phone blog reads.

In the meantime, we should note that Spotify is available on other platforms as well, including Mac OS X and Windows on desktop PCs. You can learn more about the service by going to Spotify's website.

Update: The app is now live in the Marketplace, here.
