Ubisoft has just confirmed that its long awaited Splinter Cell High Definition Trilogy is set to be released in North America, exclusively for the PlayStation 3, both as a retail package and as a digital download.

Ubisoft has had quite a lot of major video games appear for the old PlayStation 2 console so, seeing as how Sony and other companies are making quite a lot of money adapting them for current generation devices, it has decided to get into the HD remake trend.

We've already seen the Prince of Persia trilogy appear for the PS3, as well as the Beyond Good & Evil HD title, released for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Now, after a pretty long wait, Ubisoft has decided to release the Splinter Cell Trilogy for North American PS3 owners today.

"The time has come, because Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Trilogy finally comes to the PS3 on Tuesday," Ubisoft revealed. "Even better, we will be launching simultaneously in stores and on the PlayStation Store. Relive the experiences of Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory all in one overstuffed bundle."

The Splinter Cell Trilogy is going to be available both from regular retail stores across North America, for $39.99 (29 Euros), as well as from the online PlayStation Store, for the same price, weighing in at around 11GB. Bear in mind that the digital versions are sold as a bundle, so there's no way just to pick one or two instead of all three.

The remastered games are based on the PC editions of the originals, playable both in high definition and in stereoscopic 3D, complete with support for PlayStation trophies. There won't be any of the multiplayer modes, like the ones in Chaos Theory, present in this release, however.

Expect the Splinter Cell Trilogy to appear on the PlayStation Store later today.
