The NPD numbers aren't so bad says Sony

Last week we've seen the NPD hardware charts arrive from the famous market research firm. The results weren't very shocking, as the hierarchy is the same as in the last few months, with Nintendo's Wii dominating its opponents, and the Xbox 360 having the upper hand on the PlayStation 3.

But things aren't so bad says Sony, which, through its Senior VP of Marketing from the American branch, Peter Dille, has revealed the view it has on the month that has passed. He goes on to say that, thanks to Killzone 2, February was a kickstart to what will be a great year for the PlayStation brand, including both the PS3 and the PSP. Dille didn't forget incoming exclusives and high-quality titles and prepared quite a statement in response to the NPD numbers.

“In February, we had a tremendous kickstart to what promises to be another record year for the PlayStation brand with the launch of mega blockbuster hit Killzone 2. We have no doubt this game will deliver a next gen experience and will be responsible for driving hardware sales throughout the year. You can also expect an onslaught of unmatched entertainment offerings to hit across our platforms, such as genre-leading PS3 titles like MLB'09: The Show and inFamous, and new content via the PlayStation Network like movies and TV shows from NBC Universal, and an unprecedented line-up of third and first party exclusives to hit the PSP. We have no doubt 2009 will be another year of continued momentum and we remain confident in delivering the best entertainment experience to our consumers.”

It's nice to see that Sony has a positive perspective on the numbers, but then again, every gaming company is specialized in spinning the numbers to its advantage. Hopefully though, for the sake of a lot of PlayStation 3 users, the future months will hold some other big titles for them, and they will have the chance to enjoy their console for quite some time.
