Activision has announced the third universe players will get to explore in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. They will get to play as the Spider-Man in the Marvel 2099 universe, the series of comic books that explores a future time-line of the Marvel characters. Two other universes are known to be included in Activision's new Spider-Man game, Amazing and Noir, with the fourth soon to be unveiled, maybe at E3 2010.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will take place in four alternate universes from Marvel's Spider-Man franchise. The reason for the entire dimension-jumping that happens during the game is a mysterious artifact entitled the Table of Order and Chaos breaking into four pieces and causing rifts in the reality. The player will be tasked with restoring the tablet by traveling to help their counterparts in three other dimensions and recover each piece of the shattered artifact.

A different universe means a different gameplay, according to the developer, Beenox. The Amazing universe features the usual experience of Activision's Spider-Man games, while the Noir one, moving the hero in a 1930s-inspired context, will focus on stealth rather than straightforward action. The 2099 universe is a very vertical experience that involves hovering at insanely high altitudes and very fast-paced combat, using the heightened senses and talons the hero receives during his stay there.

The villains will also vary from dimension to dimension. The 2099 part will feature, for example, a robotic Hobgoblin designed especially for the title. The game's release date is not that far away, that is, it will be launched on the 7th of September, 2010, and it will be available for the Nintendo DS, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.
