Activision Blizzard and Marvel have offered the first details related to Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the new superhero-based videogame set to be launched in September 2010. The two companies are saying that gamers will be able to play as four different versions of the iconic character, with The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man Noir being the first two to be confirmed.

The Amazing Spider-Man world will instantly be recognizable to fans of the character, allowing him to engage in web-based aerial and acrobatic combat, with the look influenced by the classic era of Peter Parker. The Spider-Man Noir setting will be very different with the character doing more detective work in an environment that is black and white, where stealth is king and kills are quiet. Apparently, Spider-Man 2099 will likely be another of the featured settings.

Writing duties for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will be handled by Dan Slott, who is best known for Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and currently working on The Mighty Avengers. The plot will be built around a mission to recover the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which has been splintered and is found in parallel dimensions. At the moment, Activision and Marvel have only confirmed Kraven and a new noir version of Hammerhead as enemies, which Spider-Man will face but more and better known foes will probably be announced at E3 and in the lead up to the actual launch.

Rob Kostich, the head of marketing at Activision Publishing, stated, “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions delivers an original storyline that bridges four unique worlds. Each action-packed universe will have its own detailed art design and thrilling missions, challenging gamers to use new skill sets to defeat enemies as they unlock powerful new moves and progress through the game.”

Activision plans to launch Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii and the DS line up.
