Manager Simon Fuller says timing would be just right for a reunion

Rumors of a Spice Girls reunion have been making the rounds for many a week now, with some even hinting that it would take place without Posh Spice Victoria Beckham if she wasn’t willing to give up her schedule to sing with the other girls again. Melanie Brown recently gave a confirmation of sorts, and manager Simon Fuller is now adding more fuel to the fire by revealing that said reunion would take place in 2012.

If that timeframe seems a bit distant right now, then one might as well mention that it’s not at just any venue that the Spice Girls will take the stage as a reformed band again, but on the occasion of the London Olympics. Nothing has yet been set in stone but, from what Fuller is telling the media – as cited by NME – that date is just as good an opportunity as any other for one final show.

“The Spice Girls are rumored to be reforming to open the London 2012 Olympic Games, according to reports. The girl group’s manager Simon Fuller said the time frame of the games would be perfect for a reunion to take place, adding that the band want to perform again before they are too old.” NME writes citing ongoing rumors in the music industry. Given that this is Fuller himself who’s hinting at a possible future reunion, insiders believe this is the closest we’re getting to a confirmation for the time being.

“They will not want to be performing hits like ‘Wannabe’ in their 40s, but it’s amazing how often people talk about another reunion. And I think if they do it, it’s going to be in 2012. They stand for so much in British music history and I can’t think of a better time for them to get back together for another performance. The demand for them as a band is as strong as ever.” Fuller says, as quoted by NME.

As also noted above, though there isn’t any confirmation of a reunion yet, rumors have it that Victoria Beckham will not be a part of it because she’s too dedicated to her fashion career and doesn’t want to put it on hold for another spin as a Spice Girl. Emma Bunton’s participation is also unsure, especially if touring is also involved, since she wants to spend more time with her family, it is being said.
