Rumors about the PlayStation 4 gaming console that Sony is said to be working on seem to appear almost weekly but one of the leaders of the company has sought to dispel them all and warn fans of Sony that no announcement was planned for the near future.

Speaking at a press conference in Las Vegas at the CES 2012 event Kaz Hirai, who is the chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment and leads the overall consumer division at Sony, stated, “Andy is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3.”

He added, “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”

Andrew House, who leads the European division of Sony Computer Entertainment, previously said that the company he is a part of is more concerned with bringing extended functionality to the PlayStation 3 than with creating a whole new hardware platform.

Recently a report claimed that Pegatron, a subsidiary of Asus, is already working with Sony to produce the PlayStation 4 while a number of sources from third parties are saying that the official reveal for the new home console will be made at the E3 2012 trade show in June.

Sony has long said that the PlayStation 3, which has been now available for more than five years, will go on for another five and will continue to get both important game releases and new features that change the way gaming is experienced.

The PS3 has already received a full hardware revision, which led to the Slim version, and it now supports motion tracking via the Move accessory and allows gamers to play in full 3D.

Microsoft is also rumored to be ready to unveil a new Xbox home consoles this year, with sources talking about full integration of Kinect and the possibility of a tablet like controller.
