Sony's expertise in the field of headphones is unquestionable, and now, the company proves its capabilities yet again, by releasing the MDR-Z1000 monitor headphone, as well as the MDR-ZX Series of headphones targeting portable players.
Sony's MDR-Z1000 monitor is, indeed, a work of art, featuring ultra-wide range HD (High Definition) Driver UnitsLCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) diaphragm that reduces resonance to deliver good quality natural mid to high frequencies, in the 5-80,000 Hz range, as well as 55-mm neodymium drivers.
It's noteworthy that these headphones offer a 24-ohm impedance and 108 dB/mW impedance, while also being accompanied by a gold-plated, L-shaped 3.5-mm audio jack designed to provide a very good audio quality and attached to the end of a 3-meter long audio cable.
The headphones also deliver a very good level of comfort via the rigid magnesium alloy housing, but also with the help of the Noise Isolation Earpads, that sport low-repulsion urethane foam, as well as a new housing gasket, designed to further cut sound leakage.
Next in line come the MDR-ZX Series headphones, that, as mentioned before, have been specifically designed for use with MP3 players and sport a closed-type design to minimise sound leakage.
The ZX series is comprised of the MDR-ZX700, ZX500, ZX300 and ZX100 models, with the flagship MDR-ZX700 sporting 50mm drivers capable of delivering a 5-40,000 Hz audio range.
Additionally, the headphones sport a 106 dB/mW sensitivity and are also accompanied by a gold-plated stereo mini plug, attached to a 1.8-meter cable.
It's also quite clear that the new ZX Series headphones will prove to be quite appealing for a large customer base, given their modern, attractive external design.
Both the MDR-Z1000 and MDR-ZX headphones will be available across Europe starting from March 2011, with pricing depending on each local market (although don't expect them to come too cheap, especially the Z1000).
