Knowing that enthusiastic gamers make a point of getting their hands on the highest quality items available, Sony put together a pair of gaming headsets that were designed based on a research conducted by the company into what gamers see as the ideal headset.

When making headphones, hardware developers need to take a number of things into account, and this includes not just the hardware itself, but also the need for comfort.

Thus it was that Sony managed to build the DR-GA200 and DR-GA500, two headsets that are, more or less, similar, except for the fact that the latter has a certain feature that the former lacks.

Both products utilize 40mm drivers and feature the 'triple enfolding' design which ensures comfort even after long-term use. What's more, the newcomers are outfitted with integrated boom microphones.

As the name suggests, the DR-GA500 is the better of the two, the reason being that it brings the benefits of the Dolby Pro Logic Iix decoder, which can render 7.1 channel effects.

“Both the DR-GA500 and GA200 headsets will also appeal to an audience of strategy and online multiplayer games where long stretches of gameplay are the norm,” states the official announcement.

“They feature 40mm drive units for outstanding sound quality with resonant, living bass and crisp high frequencies, plus the Sony 'triple enfolding' design for the last word in comfortable wear,” the press release adds.

“The result is a soundscape rich in precision spatial detail that pinpoints everything from a stealthy footstep to the position of an exploding grenade. This audio environment is perfect for first person shooter (FPS) games where what you can hear is often as important as what you can see,' the release explains.

According to the company, the two new products should start shipping sometime during the middle of October and will be offered in a bundle with EA's Medal of Honor FPS (first-person shooter).
