Why don't you get a proper HDTV?

All kinds of rumors have been circulating in the gaming community, implying that Sony next-gen, the PS3, is downsizing games meant for 720p down to 420p. Apparently, this problem was encountered by gamers who own older versions of HDTVs.

GameDaily BIZ spoke today to Sony Computer Entertainment America who commented on this matter. They said that there are only a few High Definition TV sets in America which have 1080i imputs for HD signals, and confirmed that these TV sets will downsize some PS3 games to a 48-p resolution. They also confirmed that they are working on a solution, and that it will come in the form of a firmware update.

First of all, I'd like to say that there are much more TV sets in the US that don't support 1080i inputs, than Sony thinks. Given the fact that we have to pay some 600 bucks for one console, maybe they should have thought of repairing any glitches before the release.

What seems appalling is that Sony blames consumers for getting a low-tech HDTV. Reading between the lines, I can see that Sony is telling all those customers that are unsatisfied by this issue to get another TV, a proper one this time.
