Sony Computer Entertainment of America has teased an exclusive announcement linked to the PlayStation 3 home gaming console, advising gamers who are interested in the platform to be prepared for a reveal on December 12, the day after the Spike Video Game Awards.

Sony might be preparing something really big, considering that it could have inserted its announcement into the line up of the Spike Video Game Awards, which are set to take place late night on December 11.

The fact that the Sony teaser mentions the new day might mean that its reveal is bigger than anything gamers will be able to see at the VGAs.

The big item for December 11 is the official first look at the new project from BiWare, which could be the next Mass Effect title or a spin off which embraces the genre of online shooter.

It's not clear whether the Sony announcement is linked to the hardware side of the PlayStation 3 or to an exclusive title for the device.

It's also weird that Sony does not offer the smallest clue as to the exact nature of its announcement.

In the last few months rumors have been appearing that Naughty Dog, the developer of the Uncharted series, is already hard at work on the third title in the series, which will serve to show the possibilities of the PlayStation 3, including the newly additions of 3D gaming power and the Move motion tracking system.

The new project from BioWare has been revealed by the official Twitter feed of Sony Russia as being Mass Effect 3 so fans of the PlayStation 3 might be well advised to watch the feed and see whether the Russians known anything about the big reveal which is coming on December 12.

Sony has already revealed that in 2011 gamers will get a new Resistance and a new Ratchet & Clank title.
