Sony Ericsson LiveView, the micro display that the Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson brought to the market a few months ago as the companion for its Android-based handsets, is expected to receive a software update as soon as next month.

The device can be used with mobile phones coming from other makers as well, and offers a nice range of features for those interested in receiving notifications on it, but it is plagued by a series of problems, some of which affect its connectivity with third party handsets.

According to a recent post on Sony Ericsson's product blog, we should see some of these issues solved in January as soon as the first software update for the Sony Ericsson LiveView emerges.

“In some reviews I have also read comments about the LiveView device not being upgradable. I just want to confirm that that is not the case. There will be a software update coming for the device itself,” Sony Ericsson's Rikard Skogberg notes on the aforementioned blog post.

“The work is ongoing and the plan is to make this updated software available as an update through SE Update Service in January.

“Some minor things are also possible to solve within the LiveView Application in the phone and updates of that app will be issued on Android Market as for any app.”

According to the said post, the upcoming software update would also come with fixes for some of the issues that users reported for the wrist-worn display when it comes to the connectivity with some mobile phones out there.

The device is already pretty popular, it seems, and its functionality is welcomed by many users, especially since there are already a series of widgets released to take advantage of its capabilities.

Developers are already supporting the device with their applications, and more of them are expected to make the move in the near future.

“The idea with the LiveView really is to leverage on 3rd party innovation so I’m glad to see that there already are quite a few developers creating plug-ins for it,” the said blog post reads.
