Sony Ericsson has just announced the first accessory for Android, the LiveView micro display with remote control functionality. The Sony Ericsson LiveView is compatible with most of the Android smartphones, that are running Android 2.0 operating system and above.

The Sony Ericsson LiveView pairs up wirelessly through the Bluetooth connection with any compatible smartphone, allowing users to control their phone without pulling it out of their pockets.

Users will be able to read text messages, see incoming or missed calls, as well as check out their accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

Further, the Sony Ericsson LiveView allow users to control the phone's music features from the micro display, selecting tracks and controlling volume.

The product also serves as a calendar reminder, displaying calendar events and other phone applications.

The device can clipped mostly anywhere or attached in a watch strap, on a keychain or even clipped to a laptop.

Mikael Henriksson, Head of creation and offering planning at Sony Ericsson Extras, said:

“It is our ambition to be The Communication Entertainment brand and this includes being the most open mobile phone brand on the market. We believe in openness and offering consumers a wide range of applications to choose from. We will continue to develop accessories to ensure we play a major and groundbreaking role in the market and design innovative and exciting accessories for all platforms, including Android.”

The Sony Ericsson LiveView accessory measures 3.5 x 3.5x1.1cm and comes with a 1.3-inch color OLED display (128x128 pixels resolution), as well as microUSB and Bluetooth connectivity.

The device is compatible with multiple applications, which can be identified by using Sony Ericsson's LiveWare Manager application.

The latter will scan Android Market for Sony Ericsson LiveView enabled applications and present them to the user.

The Sony Ericsson LiveWare manager will be available from Android Market, or comes preinstalled in phone bundles.

The Sony Ericsson LiveView will be available in stores from Q4, 2010.
