Somewhat less capable than the European version

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a can be ordered today, even though shipping will probably start on November 28. In any case, fans are undoubtedly glad that Ericsson can finally bring the Xperia X1a to the U.S. as well.

There are noticeable differences from the version released not long ago in Europe, some even considering this new model a bit less appealing. However, seeing how the changes are rather insignificant, this really does not make that much of a difference. Making a comparison between the two, the latest incarnation of the Xperia X1a can record only in QVGA, unlike the VGA recording capabilities of the earlier X1a. It also doesn't include support for H264 video playback, but it can support 3GPP video playback.

The 800x480 pixel resolution of the 3-inch screen could be a bit tricky at first, as some Windows Mobile third-party applications might be inaccessible, but this issue will probably be solved if you give it a little time. As already mentioned, the device runs on the 6.1 Windows Mobile platform, which allows you access to all the software within the mobile through the Microsoft Today panel.

From the start, you will have seven panels available: the Sony Ericsson panel, complete with Java applications and RSS news reader, the Microsoft Today panel, an FM Radio panel, a 3D Fish panel, a Slideshow panel revealing the latest photos or recordings, the Media Experience panel for managing your files and music player, and last, the Google panel that provides complete access to Google applications.

Moreover, the Xperia comes equipped with an internal memory of 400MB, 256MB of SDRAM and microSD card support. To complete the list come a 3.2 Megapixel camera with auto touch focus, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a QWERTY keyboard thumbboard operating only on AT&T's HSPA network.

The main distributer of Xperia will be Sony Style, while the price goes up to around 800$ for the non-contract option.
